Our Operating Principles

Most "Values" pages are just a list of nice-sounding words that companies immediately ignore the second money is on the line. We aren't going to do that.

It is impossible to write down every single philosophical stance we hold without writing a textbook, and honestly, we don't want to lock ourselves into rigid dogma. We are building a dynamic system, and our community will evolve.

Instead of a philosophical checklist, here are the core operating principles that actually dictate how we build Cosmo and how we expect this community to function:

1. The Collective Decides

We believe the people who rely on a system should be the ones who govern it. Top-down, closed-door monopolies have failed the majority of humanity. If a decision fundamentally affects this community or the infrastructure we are building, the community holds the steering wheel. We default to direct democracy.

2. Profit is a Tool, Not the Mission

Money is a necessary tool to build massive infrastructure, pay for servers, and hire great teams. But it is a terrible master. We are building systems designed to actually solve problems and lower the cost of living, rather than endlessly extracting wealth to inflate a stock price. We prioritize the long-term health of humanity and the planet over short-term quarterly gains.

3. Action Over "Awareness"

Having an opinion is easy. Raising awareness is fine. But neither of those things actually puts shovels in the ground. We value concrete action. We are here to bridge the gap between caring about a problem and actually pooling the resources required to build the solution.

4. Productive Friction (Debate the Idea, Respect the Human)

We believe in free speech and open debate, even when it is uncomfortable. We assume that people are shaped by their environments and are capable of growth, so we don't believe in writing people off permanently for having a different perspective. We welcome friction and diverse ideas, but we require respect. Attack the argument, not the person.

5. Default to Open

(See our Transparency page). We don't hide the mechanics. Whether it is our financials, our moderation decisions, or our future roadmaps, we operate out in the open. Trust is not a value you can just claim; it is a byproduct of radical accountability.
